April Fools’! If we thought golf was boring, we would have quit our jobs a long time ago. The “golf is a boring sport” misconception probably comes from what you see on television. Sure, some people might not find watching golf on television so exciting. In all honesty, we don’t blame you if you’ve never played. Watching someone else play a sport usually isn’t as thrilling as actually participating, right? Having knowledge of the game of golf, or any other sport for that matter, will give you a completely different perspective.
If you truly think golf is boring, we challenge you to challenge yourself! Get out on the practice green and see what all the fuss is about. There are extremely talented instructors at Queenstown Harbor to help every level of golfer improve and enjoy the game. Who knows? Maybe spending the day out in the sun in a beautiful setting with a group of friends hitting your first putt won’t be so boring after all.
Now that we have the “boring” myth cleared up, Whoa! Who are you calling old? Golf is a game for men and women of all ages, professionals and beginners. Anyone, at any age, can begin to play golf. Think of the first time you played mini or “putt-putt” golf as a child. As long as you’re able to hold a club, swing, and attempt (key word) to hit the ball, you’re on your way to becoming a pro. Okay, so maybe you’re not going to be wearing the green jacket in this lifetime, but try telling Rory McIlroy that golf is for old people! At the age of 22, he won the U.S. Open. Old people, eh?
You have to start somewhere. Most golf courses offer lessons and programs for beginning or junior golfers and the Academy at Queenstown Harbor is no exception. Beginning golfers learn the basics of golf: rules, equipment, etiquette, terminology, short game, set up and swing mechanics. You’ll be putting, chipping and swinging in no time! If you’re looking to compete in high school or college, individual sessions or camps might be beneficial too. The point is, golf isn’t just for young people or old people. Golf is everybody’s sport.
Here’s to the beginning of an excellent golf season! Let’s just hope Mother Nature doesn’t “April Fool” us anytime soon.
